Television has brought great sporting events right into the living rooms of homes around the world but there is still no substitute for being right there, right in the thick of things to experience the sights and the sounds and, above all, the adrenaline rush that comes with live action.
On Saturday,
July 5, the adrenaline will be flowing like water among the 56 000 people expected at Greyville Racecourse in Durban for the running of the R2 million, Grade 1, Vodacom Durban July, the greatest racing, fashion and entertainment extravaganza on the African continent.
On that day Greyville and its surrounds will be teeming with people and vehicles and the best way to avoid being held up in queues of people and cars is to secure entrance and parking tickets early.
Tickets for the day go on sale in early-June - grandstand tickets at R150 each and parking tickets on at R40 per vehicle the Royal Durban Golf Course. Whilst entrance tickets will also be on sale on the day, parking tickets will NOT be sold on the day and MUST be pre-purchased.
To ease traffic congestion at the entrances to the parking on the Royal Durban Golf Course, Gold Circle will again create an additional vehicle track crossing for Members only at approximately the 2450m mark near the old W.Daly building.
To ease pedestrian congestion in the tunnel underneath the racetrack just after the finish at Greyville, additional track crossings will be used. Racegoers should be aware that the tunnel under the track will be CLOSED from 15:45 to 16:45. In view of this it is requested that racegoers move to their vantage points for the Vodacom Durban July well before this time. The two track crossings will however remain in place at the 100m and 200m marks as long as there are no horses on the racetrack.
While runners for the first race will come under starters orders just after 11am, there is always plenty going on at the course before that with music and the traditional parade of enthusiastic fashionistas on the main course in front of the grandstand.
The key for those wanting to attend is to get their tickets early and Gold Circle is making it easy for the public to do just that.
From early-June tickets can be purchased at the Administration Office at Greyville Racecourse, 150 Avondale Road, Durban, during office hours or at the following TABGold outlets:-
